Ghana to conduct first-ever digital census

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has said it would deploy over 70,000 tablets and leverage other modern digital technologies to collect data to compile an accurate and reliable database for the 2020 Population and Housing Census.
Barring any last-minute hitch, the census is expected to come off in March 2020.
According to Government Statistician Samuel Kobina Annim, his office would integrate all the data from other national exercises such as the National Identification Card, National Housing Project, National Digital Property and Addressing System to facilitate the project.
Speaking to Class News on the sidelines of the launch of the 5-year Corporate Plan for 2020 – 2024, Prof Annim said: “There should be a conscious attempt to link population register to business register and address system. In all this role, what we mean by e-census is a building footprint that give us access to the address system.”
60,000 people have been recruited to help conduct the census.
