The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the arrest of eight individuals in connection with the disturbances that marred the Ablekuma North rerun of polls.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Yohuno said the suspects are currently being processed and will soon face court.

“As of yesterday, eight suspects had been arrested. They are being processed, and based on advice from the regional commander, they will appear before court either tomorrow or Friday,” he disclosed.

The IGP reaffirmed the police administration’s commitment to upholding justice, stressing that officers who act unprofessionally will also be held accountable.

Addressing concerns about the assault of a journalist during the rerun, Mr. Yohuno clarified that the officer involved was not transferred, as rumoured, but interdicted.

“We immediately withdrew the officer and interdicted him. When an officer is interdicted, their uniform is taken away, and they cannot return to work.

The rumour about his transfer is completely false,” he explained.

He further revealed that the Police Professional Standards Bureau had completed its investigations into the incident.

“I have received the report, and a service enquiry will be conducted into his conduct.

Disciplinary action will follow as recommended,” the IGP confirmed.

Mr. Yohuno stressed that the police service remains committed to accountability—both among civilians and within its own ranks.
