Just like COP Mensah, I've the same intel IGP recorded, leaked audio - Supt. George Asare

General News
Superintendent George Asare

Superintendent George Asare, a senior police officer implicated in an alleged plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, has suggested that his information indicates that the IGP himself had their conversation recorded and subsequently leaked the tape in question.

This assertion aligns with earlier allegations made by Commissioner of Police (COP) George Mensah, who had previously informed the commission investigating the alleged plot that it was the IGP, Dr. Dampare, who orchestrated the recording of the leaked tape and possesses the original copy.

When asked about COP George Mensah's statement, Superintendent Asare told the commission on Monday, September 4, 2023, that he also had information suggesting that the IGP had an agreement with Bugri Naabu after Bugri Naabu informed the IGP that "somebody wants your post, so he has come to me."

“I also have the same intel that the IGP agreed with Bugri Naabu after Bugri Naabu had gone to inform the IGP that ‘somebody wants your post so he has come to me,’” he stated.

Superintendent Asare further claimed that COP George Mensah's curriculum vitae (CV), which was given to Bugri Naabu to be forwarded to the appointing authority, had instead been given to the IGP.

Superintendent Asare is the third witness to appear before the committee investigating the alleged plot, following Bugri Naabu, the main witness, as well as Supt. Emmanuel Gyebi and key witness Commissioner George Mensah.

The investigation aims to shed light on the alleged plot to remove the IGP from his position.
