Kasoa drivers welcome fuel price reduction, urges gov't to sustain progress

Commercial drivers in Kasoa municipality of the Central Region have lauded the government for the consistent reduction in fuel prices under President John Mahama’s administration, citing significant relief in their daily operations.
Speaking to Class News’ Samuel Addo, several drivers expressed satisfaction with the downward trend in fuel costs over the first 120 days of President Mahama’s tenure.
They urged the government to sustain the momentum to further ease the burden on the transport sector.
Bless, a commercial driver operating in Kasoa, shared that prior to 2025, GHC300 worth of fuel could barely last a day.
"Now, with just GHC200, I’m able to run my daily routes without difficulty," he said.
Other drivers echoed his sentiments, noting that the price drop has helped improve their earnings and reduce the financial stress of running transport services.
However, Moses Antwi, Vice Chairman for the Kumasi-Nkawkaw Station, pointed out that despite the reductions, some fuel stations have not adjusted their prices accordingly, due to illegal pricing practices.
He called on regulatory authorities to enforce compliance to ensure all drivers benefit from the government's efforts.
Mr. Antwi also appealed to the government to ensure that the appreciation of the cedi is reflected in the cost of spare parts, which remain high despite the relative stability of the currency.
Drivers in Kasoa and beyond are hopeful that the current economic relief will be sustained to improve livelihoods and reduce operational costs across the transport industry
