La: Ban on drumming begins Aug 8

The La Traditional Council has placed a ban on noise-making within La and its surrounding villages.
The ban will take effect from Monday, 8 August 2022, to Friday, 2 September 2022.
According to a notice by the La Traditional Council, the ban affects activities including the “organisation of funeral and burials, outdooring and other related activities such as Naming, Graduation, and passing out ceremonies.
“Engagement and wedding ceremonies, drumming, clapping, playing of organs etc, at places of worship, schools and entertainment centres, outdoor crusades, floats, prayers on parks/beaches and mounting of outdoor speakers,” will all be affected.
Also, “loud tuning of radio and television sets, blaring of car horns and chiming of bells etc, and reckless riding of motor bikes,” are not allowed during the period.
The notice urged all to “ensure strict compliance” as a “hefty penalty awaits individuals, group of people and /entities that flout” the directives “knowingly and unknowingly.”
