Leaked tape plotting IGP’s removal: Parliamentary Committee submits report

The ad hoc committee established by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to investigate the leaked audio discussing an alleged plot to remove Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has presented its report to Parliament.
The committee, chaired by Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, was tasked with probing the leaked audio, in which senior police officers were recorded discussing plans with Bugri Naabu, former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to oust the IGP.
The officers in the audio criticised the IGP for being “too professional” and difficult to compromise.
On Tuesday, 18 June 2024, the committee's findings were formally submitted to Parliament.
The Clerk of Parliament announced: “Report of the Special Committee of Inquiry into the contents of a leaked audio tape of a high-ranking police officer and others in an alleged conspiracy to remove the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and related matters has been duly presented.”
