Napo assures driver unions of transport reforms under Bawumia's presidency

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has reaffirmed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s transport sector into a model of efficiency, safety, and profitability.
Addressing members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners’ Association (PROTOA) in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the pivotal role of drivers and transport operators in Ghana’s economic development.
“Your industry is a vital pillar of our economy and contributes significantly to the livelihoods of many Ghanaians.
You are key stakeholders in our journey toward national development,” he said.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured the unions that a Bawumia-led administration would implement transformative policies to address long-standing challenges in the transport sector.
These reforms would focus on improving road infrastructure and reducing fuel costs to ease the financial burden on transport operators.
He highlighted the Akufo-Addo administration’s record-breaking achievements in road construction, citing projects such as the Pokuase Interchange, Tema Motorway Interchange Phase 1, East Legon underpass, and the newly opened Flowerpot Interchange.
Beyond the Greater Accra Region, he noted the first-ever interchanges in Suhum in the Eastern Region and Tamale in the Northern Region.
“In total, 14 interchanges are at various stages of completion across the country, demonstrating our commitment to establishing a safer and more efficient transportation network,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh said.
He encouraged members of the transport unions to rally behind Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing that their support is critical to achieving a prosperous and united Ghana.
“Dr. Bawumia is committed to working closely with you to ensure the transport sector thrives.
However, this vision can only be realized if you vote massively for him,” he added.
The chairman of the driver unions expressed gratitude for the engagement and acknowledged the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure.
He assured Dr. Opoku Prempeh of the unions’ support and commitment to spreading the NPP’s message of development and progress within their ranks.
