Northern Chiefs in Central Region pay courtesy call on Defence Minister

A delegation of Northern Chiefs residing in the Central Region has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, to formally congratulate him on his recent appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.
The visit, marked by goodwill and constructive engagement, also served as an opportunity for the chiefs to commend the Mahama-led administration for its impartial and measured approach to resolving the protracted Bawku Chieftaincy conflict.
According to the delegation, the government’s confidence in traditional mechanisms of conflict resolution is not only commendable but also a necessary foundation for sustainable peace in the area.
Dr. Omane Boamah expressed deep appreciation for the chiefs’ visit and their words of encouragement, describing it as a meaningful gesture that strengthens the bond between government and traditional leadership.
“I appreciate their commendation of the Mahama government's impartial stance on the Bawku Chieftaincy conflict, trusting in traditional resolution.
Thank you, esteemed chiefs, for recognising our efforts and urging continued dedication to public service,” the Defence Minister stated.
In addition to commending the government’s peace efforts, the chiefs held discussions with Dr. Omane Boamah on future recruitments into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
They welcomed the opportunity to present ideas on how to ensure inclusivity and fairness in recruitment processes, especially for youth from northern communities living in the Central Region.
Dr. Omane Boamah described their input as “objective and forward-looking,” adding that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to broadening opportunities for all qualified Ghanaians to serve in the armed forces.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of respect and a renewed commitment to cooperation between traditional authorities and state institutions in promoting national development and cohesion
