President Mahama embarks on a working visit to Burkina Faso on today

President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on a working visit to Burkina Faso on Monday, March 10, 2025.
During his stay in Ouagadougou, President Mahama will meet with his Burkinabe counterpart, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to strengthen bilateral relations between the neighbouring nations.
The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reflecting the strong historical and geographical ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The two leaders are also expected to deliberate on the security situation in the Sahel region, sub-regional stability, and international geopolitical developments. Given their shared perspectives on key issues of global governance, their meeting is anticipated to reinforce strategic collaboration between the two countries.
This visit marks President Mahama’s first official trip to Burkina Faso since assuming office on January 7, 2025, following his election victory on December 7, 2024.
His visit underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional diplomacy and cooperation with its West African neighbours.
President Mahama’s visit forms part of his diplomatic efforts to bolster Ghana’s ties with its ECOWAS neighbours and tackle regional security challenges, particularly in relation to the newly established Alliance of Sahel States.
He began his good neighbourliness tour this weekend with visits to three Sahelian countries—Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
In February, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed that President Mahama had been at the forefront of negotiations aimed at facilitating the reintegration of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso into ECOWAS
