Speaker expresses shock over demise of Dr Anthony Akoto Osei

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has expressed shock over the demise of the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo Pankorono Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei.
The Speaker recounted that the late legislator was very illustrious, one who was very effective and respected by all Members of the House.
According to him, the former MP distinguished himself in the house and was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance before being appointed Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning.
He said before entering Parliament, Dr Akoto played a major role in economic education with a civil society organisation.
The House observed a minute of silence for his passing.
The former Old Tafo MP and former minister of state in charge of monitoring and evaluation passed away on Monday, 20 March 2023.
The circumstances of his death are sketchy for now.
His passing was announced on the Facebook page of the parliament of Ghana.
He was 69 years old.
Mr Osei was in the cabinet of former President John Agyekum Kufuor as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning.
He became a member of the Management Board of Merchant Bank (Ghana) Ltd, in March 2002.
Prior, he served as an Associate Professor at Dollard University (USA) and as a Research Assistant at the Center for Policy Analysis (Ghana).
In May, 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo named Akoto Osei as part of 19 ministers to form his cabinet
