UE/R: Nangodi youth condemn brutal murder of NHIS officer

The youth of Nangodi, a community in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, have vehemently condemned the horrific murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) officer in the Bongo District, whose charred remains were discovered in a burnt vehicle on Monday, May 19, 2025.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the visibly distressed youth expressed deep shock and outrage over the gruesome killing, describing it as barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.
They called on the security agencies to act swiftly and decisively in investigating the matter and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
According to initial reports, Mr. Akugri was ambushed by unknown assailants between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. while returning home from Bolgatanga.
He was allegedly shot and his vehicle set on fire, with his body later discovered burnt beyond recognition — an act that has sent shockwaves through the region and instilled fear among residents.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Ditamina Gambil Emmanuel emphasised the peaceful nature of the Nangodi community and strongly distanced its residents from the violent act.
“Nangodi is a peace-loving community. We do not condone violence of any form. We are heartbroken by this tragedy and urge the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure the culprits are brought to justice,” he said.
The youth also called for an increased security presence in the area to restore public confidence and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspects as pressure mounts from residents and civil society for justice and accountability.
