UE/R floods kill 10
At least 10 people have been confirmed dead in the Upper East Region after days of heavy downpour in the Kasena Nankana and Builsa Districts.
The heavy downpour ravaged acres of farmlands and displaced over 70 households.
Class91.3FM’s regional correspondent, Derrick Abasiki, said the tenth casualty was recorded in the evening of Monday, 15 October 2019.
Residents in Chuchuliga-Akunchorisa, Chuchuliga-Naaga, Bonia, Korania, Bui, Kologo, and Sandema are the most affected areas as the torrential rains destroyed their rice, tomato, pepper and maize farms.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Jerry Asamani, said they are collecting data in order to make relief items available to the victims.
“We are taking records of all the victims, the number of houses that collapsed and the number of people affected and the children, too, we are putting them into various classes to get to the relief stage where we can effectively take care of the victims,” he said.
