Staff members of the Volta River Authority (VRA) are raising concerns over a proposal in Parliament to merge the VRA with the Bui Power Authority.

The plan has sparked significant opposition among employees, who fear it could lead to the privatization of critical hydro resources and result in higher energy costs for Ghanaians.

In a statement, Theophilus Tetteh Ahia, the National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of the VRA, voiced deep concerns about the potential impact of the merger.

"This proposed merger poses a serious risk of transferring vital hydro assets from public ownership to private interests," Ahia cautioned.

"Such a move would likely drive up the cost of electricity, burdening ordinary Ghanaians rather than providing any tangible benefits."
