Vote transfers, special and proxy-voting procedures start Friday
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has scheduled Friday, 25 October 2019 to Monday, 4 November 2019 to receive applications for transfer of votes, as well as special and proxy-voting.
The exercise will be undertaken at the district offices of the EC across the country.
The election-conducting body made the announcement via a release on Thursday, 24 October 2019, and explained that applicants requesting vote transfers must present themselves, their voter ID cards and proof of residence at their new locality.
The release added that the applicants should be individuals who have stayed at the new address for, at least, 12 months.
For those requesting special voting, the applicants must be qualified voters in the district and can vote only in the referendum.
On the other hand, persons who want to have proxy votes “must go with the proxy, who should be a registered voter at the same polling station, to the district offices of the Commission for the necessary procedures to be effected”.
The EC is scheduled to hold a referendum on 17 December 2019, to approve the bill to amend Clause 3 of Article 55 of the 1992 Constitution.
When passed, the bill will permit political parties to fund candidates for election to district assemblies and lower local government units.
