We’ll no longer sew police uniforms abroad – Bawumia
The government of Ghana has announced that uniforms for police personnel will no longer be sewn abroad but locally.
This was announced by Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at an event organised by the Young Executive Forum (YEF), and NPP-UK in London on Saturday, 12 October 2019.
The move, according to Dr Bawumia, forms part of a decision by the government to “use its procurement power to support local businesses and industries”.
Citing an example, Dr Bawumia said now that Ghana has local fertiliser blending factories and toilet paper producing factories that produce enough to meet domestic demands, there is no need for Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) and government institutions to import fertiliser or toilet paper.
Dr Bawumia further noted that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government appreciates the significant contributions of the diaspora community in nation-building.
“We’ll continue to engage them for greater synergies in knowledge-sharing and transfer, transfer of technical know-how, investment opportunities, and several others,” he stated
