COVID-19: 1 doctor dead, 96 other health staff infected in A/R
The Medical Director (Paediatrician) at the Kwadaso Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Harry Boateng, has died of COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.
The Ashanti Region has so far recorded 2,403 cases with 38 deaths.
It becomes the second region in the country with the highest number of cases after the Greater Accra Region.
A total number of 97 health workers made up of doctors, nurses and disease control officers in the region have all contracted the virus.
There are 47 nurses and 18 doctors among them.
The breakdown of the cases in the various areas in the region is as follows: Kumasi 67, Obuasi 12, Oforikrom 6, Ejisu 3, Sekyere South 3, and Atwima Nwabiegya 2.
Kwadaso has recorded 1 case with Ahafo Ano North also recording 1 case.
Ghana’s total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, 17 June 2020 stands at 12,590 with 4,410 recoveries and 66 deaths.
