Cost of sanitary pads: Rotary Club donates menstrual cups to adolescent girls
The Rotary Club International as part of the measures to find an alternative for adolescent girls during their menstrual period has made available some menstrual cups in the wake of the rising cost of sanitary pads.
The club made the donation when it visited pupils of St Peter's Catholic school at Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region to educate them on the use of menstrual cups for a girl child who is of menstrual age.
Speaking in an interview with Class 91.3 FM’s Central Regional correspondent, the Service Project Director of Rotary Club Accra, Madam Rotarian Dzifa Sogbe-Adranyi, mentioned that, the over one hundred menstrual cups donated to the girl child at the St Peter's Catholic school is an alternative for menstrual sanitary pads.
She further stated that the menstrual cup is more comfortable and hygienic as compared to sanitary pads.
"The price of sanitary pads today is giving girls a reason not to be punctual in school whenever they reach their menstrual circle.
As an alternative, menstrual cups could be used for 10 to 15 years without infection," she indicated.
The girls were taken through how to insert the menstrual cup during their monthly cycles.
Some of them expressed gratitude to the club for the education and the donation.
They promised to use the menstrual cup also
