Ghana Medical Trust Fund supports UGMC patient with GHS25,750 during pilot phase
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has approved financial support for a 25-year-old patient receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), highlighting the impact of the Fund’s ongoing pilot phase ahead of its full rollout.
The support followed the consideration of a request submitted by Mr. Aminu Taibu, who has been diagnosed with ischaemic heart disease and requires urgent medical intervention.
As part of the pilot phase, which is currently covering 50 cases nationwide, the Fund paid GHS25,750 directly to UGMC to support his treatment.
The payment was formally received by the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, Dr. Abdul-Samed Tanko, who assured stakeholders of the hospital’s commitment to providing the necessary care.
The development has reinforced confidence in the collaborative efforts between the Fund and health institutions to deliver timely and life-saving interventions, the Administrator of the Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has said.
According to the Administrator, the intervention underscores the importance of the pilot phase, which is designed to test systems and ensure the Fund can respond swiftly to critical medical needs before its official nationwide implementation.
Through the support, Mr. Taibu has been given renewed hope, while the initiative demonstrates the government’s broader commitment to strengthening access to healthcare and delivering targeted support to citizens in need
