The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening bilateral health collaboration with China following a high-level courtesy visit by His Excellency Tong Defa, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, and his delegation.

During the meeting held in Accra, both parties explored avenues to expand cooperation in healthcare delivery, medical infrastructure development, and the integration of traditional medicine practices.

The Minister expressed profound appreciation for China’s long-standing support, citing the continued deployment of Chinese medical professionals to the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal (LEKMA) Hospital since 2009 and China’s pivotal role in the establishment and funding of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

“These efforts have contributed immensely to addressing Ghana’s pressing healthcare challenges and advancing medical education,”  Akandoh stated.

As part of their ongoing support, the 14th Chinese Medical Team in Ghana has donated a substantial consignment of medical equipment, consumables, and pharmaceuticals to the LEKMA Hospital.

The donation is aimed at supporting the hospital’s minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) project as well as the “Beautiful World Charity” initiative.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Akandoh commended the team’s generosity and reaffirmed the significance of the donation to Ghana’s health system.

“This support will greatly enhance service delivery and deepen the health partnership between our two nations,” he noted.

He also charged the hospital’s leadership, under the stewardship of Medical Superintendent Dr. Akua Gyimah Asante, to ensure that the donated equipment is used effectively, maintained properly, and serves its intended purpose of improving patient outcomes.
