KATH lab scientists strike
The laboratory scientists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have declared a sit-down strike.
The aggrieved workers say the week-long strike will take effect from tomorrow, Thursday, 20 May 2021 to Wednesday, 26 May to 2021.
They said during the strike, all laboratory tests including coronavirus, will be suspended.
Addressing the media today, Wednesday, 19 May 2021, the hospital's chapter chairman for the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Mr Ernest Badu Boateng, said the strike was declared to demand management of the hospital to reassign two clinical haematologists who were posted to the department two years ago.
According to him, they have channeled their grievances to management for the past two years to reassign the two specialists but nothing has been done about it.
Mr Boateng indicated a general assembly meeting will be held on May 26, 2021, to decide on the next action to be taken if their demand is not granted.
He, therefore, called on the management of the hospital to heed their demand and reassign the two specialists.
