NHIA disburses GH¢270m to healthcare providers
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢270 million to healthcare providers nationwide to settle vetted claims up to October 2024 and partially cover claims for November 2024.
In a statement issued on January 3, 2025, NHIA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye confirmed the payments were made within the agreed three-month reimbursement period.
He assured that there are no pending vetted claims.
“This latest payment brings the total amount disbursed by the NHIA in the past four months to over GH¢1.2 billion, highlighting our unwavering commitment to supporting healthcare providers and sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),” Dr. Aboagye said.
He also encouraged healthcare providers to submit claims promptly, emphasizing that submissions should not exceed the stipulated 90-day period.
The NHIA’s recent payments include a series of significant disbursements aimed at meeting its financial obligations to healthcare facilities:
December 1, 2024: GH¢200 million was released for claims covering September and part of October 2024. October 9, 2024: Over GH¢335 million was allocated to settle claims for August 2024. September 2024: GH¢402 million was disbursed to cover claims for June and July 2024.These consistent disbursements demonstrate the NHIA’s commitment to bolstering Ghana’s healthcare sector by ensuring timely reimbursements to service providers, contributing to the stability and efficiency of the NHIS
