The Minister for Health,  Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated the governing boards of six major health regulatory bodies, urging members to prioritise delivery over complaints in their mandate to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.

The boards sworn in include the National Blood Service, National Ambulance Service, Mental Health Authority, Ghana College of Pharmacists, Allied Health Professions Council, and the Traditional Medicine Practice Council.

In his address, the Minister delivered a strong message: “Deliver, don’t complain.” He emphasised that the public expects measurable results, not excuses, and assured the newly inaugurated boards of his ministry’s full backing in the execution of their duties.

“I am here to support you,” Mr. Akandoh said. “But the time for complaints is over. We must all focus on performance, efficiency, and impact.”

Turning his attention to mental health, the Minister stressed the urgent need for greater attention and investment in the sector, which he described as long neglected.

He revealed that over 2.3 million Ghanaians are affected by mental health conditions, yet only 2% receive formal psychiatric care.

“We can no longer afford to treat mental health as secondary,” he said, urging the Mental Health Authority board in particular to be proactive and innovative in bridging this critical care gap.
