UE/R: 23 out of 38 CHPS compounds operate under trees in Bola – MCE

The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rex Asanga, has called on relevant stakeholders in the health sector to come to the aid of the municipality to help improve universal healthcare delivery in the rural areas.
According to the MCE, in the municipality, out of the 38 Community Health-Based Planning Services compounds, only 15 operate from basic structures.
The other 23, operate under trees.
The MCE, indicated that the situation requires urgent attention from individual organisations as government alone cannot bear the weight.
“The primary focus of the Municipality in the area of health is to achieve the basic primary healthcare delivery but we are not able to do that because of the challenges we are confronting such that out of the 38 CHPS compounds planned by the Municipal Health Directorate, only 15 have some form of basic structures to operate on such as OPD, Nurses’ quarters, but the rest have none, some no structures.
“We are working on rehabilitating some of them as an assembly, but we need support from anybody,” he said.
Mr Asanga disclosed this while speaking to Class 91.3 FM’s Upper East Regional Correspondent, Moses Apiah, on the sidelines of a donation of two tricycle ambulances to the Sumbrungu and Sherigu health centres respectively.
The donation, he says, forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to improve quality healthcare delivery in the rural areas.
The MCE, therefore, urged the beneficiary CHPS compounds and residents to contribute to the general functioning of the ambulances.
