We won’t trust EC, even if Jesus says it’s clean – NDC

The Director of Communications for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashaiman Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Joe Awuku, also known as Joe Ashaiman, has expressed strong reservations about the integrity of the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM's morning show, Ghana Yensom, hosted by Otafrigya Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Thursday, September 26, 2024, Mr. Awuku made it clear that the NDC does not trust the EC, which is currently led by Madam Jean Mensa.
He stated emphatically that even if divine assurance were given, the party would still harbour doubts.
“Even if Jesus himself tells us she’s clean, we will doubt Jesus,” he remarked.
Mr. Awuku accused the EC of consistently engaging in practices that undermine free, fair, and transparent elections in the country.
He argued that the Commission’s actions over the years suggest bias toward a particular political party, creating an atmosphere of mistrust as the December 7 elections approach.
Reacting to President Akufo-Addo's recent assurance at the United Nations General Assembly that the 2024 elections would be free and fair, Mr. Awuku stressed that the NDC would not stand idly by while the EC allegedly works to favour certain candidates.
He went further to say that if one were seeking the devil and encountered Jean Mensa, "she’s the one."
The NDC official also called for a forensic audit of the voters' register, warning that if the EC engages in questionable practices, and that with the stand taken by the EC, the party will determine its next course of action.
