#2020polls: Ten flagbearers to meet Akufo-Addo, Mahama over electoral impasse, march for peace
Some ten flagbearers who contested in the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections have said they will hold a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the presidential candidate of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, over the post-election stalemate and the threat it poses to the peace of the country.
The purpose of the meeting will be to urge the two to ensure the country remains peaceful.
The meeting follows numerous protests staged by supporters of the NDC across the country to drum home their rejection of the results, which they insist are “flawed”.
The ten presidential candidates are from nine political parties with the tenth being an independent candidate, Mr Mr Asiedu Walker.
The parties include the Ghana Union Movement, the All People’s Congress (APC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP) People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
The spokesperson for the candidates, Mr Hassan Ayariga of the APC, noted that the group would meet Nana Akufo-Addo and Mr Mahama, separately.
The group will first meet Mr Mahama and thenPresident Akufo-Addo.
Also, the ten nine parties and the independent candidate will, on Thursday, 24 December 2020, embark on a peace march in Accra, which will begin at 6 am from the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and end at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park.
