President-elect of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has indicated he and President Nana Akufo-Addo have spoken via a phone call.
He said the president called him to "graciously" congratulate him.
Additionally, he underlined they had both "agreed" to an early inauguration of the transition team.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer said this in his acceptance speech following the declaration of his party's victory by the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa, Monday, December 9, 2024.
A statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications (Office of the President), President Akufo-Addo confirmed this.
"In the spirit of collaboration, the President has invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process," the statement revealed.
"He remains committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa."
