#2024Polls: NPP, NDC, EC to face court over disputed constituencies today

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Electoral Commission (EC) are set to appear in court today, Tuesday, 31 December, to address disputes over the collation of results in constituencies such as Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central.
This follows a Supreme Court ruling overturning a High Court decision that had granted an NPP application compelling the EC to re-collate results in constituencies initially declared for the NDC.
The EC subsequently declared NPP candidates winners in seven constituencies, escalating tensions.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, the NDC petitioned the Supreme Court, arguing that its candidates’ rights to natural justice were violated as they were not given an opportunity to be heard at the High Court. The party also accused the presiding judge of bias.
In its judgement, the Supreme Court upheld the NDC’s claim of a breach of natural justice and reversed the High Court’s decision.
However, it found no evidence of bias against the judge and directed that the case be reassigned to a different judge for further proceedings.
The High Court is now expected to decide the fate of the disputed constituencies, including Techiman South, during its session on Tuesday.
The verdict could have far-reaching implications as Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections.
