#2024Polls: NPP’s Boamah to wrestle NDC, Baba Sadiq over Okaikwei Central ‘coup d’etat’ in High Court

Patrick Yaw Boamah has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of claiming the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat “by a coup d’état”.
Boamah said the NDC said they “don’t agree with the figures from the electoral commission,” asking the EC to “take out the number of polling stations they don’t agree with,” and doing so “under duress”.
“Look at the way the Returning Officer was manhandled within the conference room of the electoral commission,” the incumbent MP said.
“They took over the conference room, manhandled him, coerced him to make a declaration which was live on national TV.”
“What happened is very alien to any electoral process I’ve been party to in the country,” he lamented, noting it was unconstitutional.
"So it was a coup d'état to take a seat Patrick Boamah has won," he emphasised.
“I know I’ve won the election – so I don’t have to use violent means to take my seat. I have to respect due process.
He told Channel One TV he had seen his lawyers, “and we’re putting our documents together.
“We’re going to the [Accra] High Court.”
Patrick Yaw Boamah’s opponent Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu of the NDC has been declared the Okaikwei Central’s MP-elect.
The serial entertainment entrepreneur resigned from his CEO position at the 3Music Network (3Music Awards, 3Music TV) – which he founded – in September 2022, launching his political career soon after.
