A/R: Am I dreaming? – Mahama expresses surprise at Kumasi NDC campaign walk turnout
The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, was left astonished by the overwhelming turnout at the party’s campaign walk in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.
Thousands of supporters gathered at the Aboabo Post Office, marched through the main streets, and culminated their walk at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, showcasing a sea of NDC colours and chants.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd at Jubilee Park, Mr. Mahama expressed his disbelief at the turnout.
"Am I dreaming? Are we in Kumasi? Are we in the Ashanti Region? Someone should wake me up; maybe I'm dreaming. That’s why Dr. Bawumia is having a sleepless night," he remarked, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The NDC flagbearer highlighted what he described as the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) preoccupation with his persona, noting that they often focus on him rather than their own flagbearer.
He took the opportunity to criticise the NPP for failing to deliver on their promises to the Ashanti Region, traditionally considered the party’s stronghold.
"The elephant will go back to the bush," Mr. Mahama asserted, suggesting that dissatisfaction with the NPP's performance could lead to a significant political shift in the region.
