Ablekuma North: Akua Owusu Afriyie confirms participation in tomorow's re-run

Despite a directive from the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, for the party to boycott a re-run of parliamentary polls in 19 polling stations, the party’s parliamentary candidate, Akua Owusu Afriyie, has announced she will participate in the election scheduled for Friday, July 11.
Speaking on Neat FM’s morning show hosted by Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Thursday, July 10, Madam Afriyie said she has decided to contest in the re-run, diverging from the party's official stance.
She explained that her decision is based on the need to defend the victory she believes was rightfully earned during the December 7, 2024, parliamentary elections.
“I am running in the re-run tomorrow. My face is on the ballot paper, and we are confident of winning again,” she declared.
Madam Afriyie also used the opportunity to rally her supporters, urging them to show up in their numbers and vote massively for the NPP in the re-run.
“We won the election, and we shall win it again,” she assured.
Her announcement introduces a new twist to the party’s internal position on the disputed re-run, signalling possible tensions within the NPP over how to handle the electoral controversy.
