Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun: Ebi Bright and Okoe-Boye sunny banter on a dark day

Communicator, actress and politician Ebi Bright was seen engaging in a heartwarming and symbolic banter with medical doctor and politician Bernard Okoe-Boye at a polling station today.
In a social media video, Ebi Bright was captured eagerly noting her vigilance and confidence of victory for her National Democratic Congress (NDC) mate and parliamentary candidate Ewurabena Aubyn who was up against the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Akua Afriyie.
“Nobody wants to be declared the loser,” she said, but in Pidgin.
She also underlined why NDC was keen on winning the seat despite having a strong majority in Parliament already.
“Whatever the 180 plus [NDC] seats are doing there [in Parliament], Ablekuma North [will join] and do same,” she asserted to Dr Okoe-Boye, as they both strolled.
Okoe-Boye, a former Ledzokuku Member of Parliament (MP) wondered how voting was coming along per Ebi’s experience at the polling station. To this, Ebi recalled “a policeman misbehaved, slapping journalists, but [the police] commander came and took care of it”.
She observed how police officers had lined up at the polling station over the matter, remarking it was part of an effort “to redeem” their image.
Stating there was restored calm and security, she encouraged voters watching via traditional and social media to “come out and vote”.
She taunted Okoe-Boye over his “defeat,” too, a comment that could equally be applied to Okoe-Boye’s NPP losing helplessly to the NDC in the general elections of December 2024.
Unfazed, Dr Okoe-Boye cautioned the electorate present and watching vicariously not to be swayed by Ebi’s comeliness and cunning.
“But Ewurabena has already swayed them. How do you think we won the seat?” Ebi retorted.
“Remember this beauty is not from this constituency, but all the way from Tema,” he lightheartedly emphasised.
“But the one we’re representing here, how do you think we won the seat? You people were not looking [well enough],” Ebi reacted. “They don’t know what the beauty did here.”
“She is only here to say hello. Don't look at her and vote,” the doctor pressed.
The moment ended with Okoe-Boye urging voters to choose the first on the ballot, and Ebi disagreeing with, “Two sure, two direct, Ablekuma North.”
Given the disturbing turn of events at some polling stations during the parliamentary rerun for the Ablekuma North constituency, Friday, July 11, 2025, this scene was a beautiful contrast, epitomising the democracy Ghana is an icon for. It demonstrated hope for the safeguarding of cohesion, and mounted a striking defence for the importance of unity despite diversity of thought, political colours, and even controversial precedents.
Earlier today, NPP politician and former MP for Awutu Senya East Mavis Hawa Koomson and another party stalwart were violently assaulted by multiple men. When former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia called on President John Mahama to intervene, Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations Minister and MP for Ningo Prampram Samuel Nettey George sharply reacted, recalling how he was assaulted during a parliamentary election for Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019, for which the NDC politician lamented he had seen no justice.
