Anti-corruption exposés not for personal gain – Ablakwa says it can cost campaign financing
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has stated that his anti-corruption campaigns are driven by a commitment to public service rather than personal gain or glory.
He declined to comment on whether he has faced bribery attempts to silence his exposés but acknowledged that his anti-corruption efforts are particularly unpopular among the ruling elite and top business moguls.
Speaking on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa said, “I’m led not by personal gain or personal glory, to be very honest. This path is a very unpopular path, particularly among the ruling elite and the top business class of our country.”
He added, “It will cost you, it will even cost you campaign financing. There are many who tell others that this deal had a portion to help everybody, including him [but he (Ablakwa) thwarted it], so we will punish him, we will deal with him, he won’t get anything for his campaign.”
Mr Ablakwa further noted that some individuals have outrightly informed him that they will never speak to him again and will implement measures to frustrate his efforts.
Below are some 10 Parliamentary Oversight Exposés of Mr Ablakwa which have cumulatively saved Ghana a US$1.3billion (GHS20.2billion).
