Baba Jamal draws number one on ballot for Ayawaso East by-election
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has secured the top position on the ballot paper after drawing number one.
The balloting exercise, conducted by the Electoral Commission on Thursday at the constituency office in Accra, determined the order of candidates ahead of the March 3 poll.
Yussif Baba Ali, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), drew number three, while Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) picked number two.
Two independent candidates, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor, will appear in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The exercise follows the successful filing of nominations by all candidates on Wednesday.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away in January while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Speaking to the media after the draw, Baba Jamal expressed confidence in his position on the ballot, describing it as a positive sign and expressing optimism about his chances in the contest.
Voters in the constituency are expected to head to the polls next month to elect a new representative to Parliament.
