Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, has strongly dismissed allegations that he attempted to buy votes during the party’s recent primary, describing the claims as false and unfounded.

In a formal statement dated February 9, 2026, and addressed to media, Baba Jamal confirmed that he appeared before an investigative committee chaired by Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi.

The committee was set up to examine reports of inducements offered to delegates.

He stated that he categorically denied any involvement in vote-buying and reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent and fair political process.

“I firmly denied any attempt on my part to induce voters,” he noted, stressing that his campaign has always been guided by integrity and respect for party rules.

Reflecting on his political journey in Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal recounted that he had contested the constituency’s primaries twice in the past but lost both times to the late Member of Parliament.

He said he accepted those results in the interest of party unity and prayed for the deceased lawmaker’s peace.

He pointed to his performance in the last primary ahead of the 2024 elections as a sign of increasing grassroots support, having secured 309 votes compared to the winner’s 452.

According to him, the outcome demonstrated growing confidence among delegates in his leadership and vision for the constituency.

He attributed this support to his consistent engagement with constituents, development-focused ideas, and reputation for honesty.

Baba Jamal also thanked the investigative committee for giving him the chance to clear his name and expressed gratitude to party delegates for their trust in him as the NDC prepares for the upcoming by-election.

He pledged to remain focused on bringing development to Ayawaso East and improving the welfare of residents, describing his campaign as a shared effort to move the constituency forward.

He ended his statement with messages of solidarity and patriotism, declaring: “Long live the NDC, long live Ayawaso East, and long live Ghana.”
