Bawumia not cause of NPP’s defeat in 2024 polls – Adwoa Safo to NPP
As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) awaits the findings of Prof. Ocquaye's report, which seeks to investigate the causes of its defeat in the 2024 general elections and outline strategies for rebuilding, key party members have begun sharing their perspectives.
Many are offering insights into the reasons behind the loss and proposing measures to strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
Former Member of Parliament for Dome- Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has defended the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that he should not be blamed for the NPP’s electoral defeat.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen radio show, she reaffirmed her confidence in Dr Bawumia, describing him as the right choice for the party both in the past and moving forward.
Adwoa Safo identified the neglect of the party’s stronghold in the Ashanti Region, particularly concerning road infrastructure, as a major factor contributing to the NPP’s poor performance in the region.
She noted that this neglect provided an opportunity for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to gain ground, securing four parliamentary seats in the region during the elections.
Despite this setback, she maintained that Dr Bawumia should not be held responsible for the party’s defeat.
Instead, she suggested that addressing the concerns of the party’s base and improving infrastructure development in key regions would be essential to regaining the trust of voters in future elections
