Bawumia visits Hawa Koomson after violent attack during Ablekuma North re-run

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a visit to Hon Mavis Hawa Koomson at her residence following a violent incident that occurred during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun on Friday, 11 July.
The visit comes in the wake of reports that Hawa Koomson was physically assaulted in what the opposition has described as a coordinated attack allegedly involving individuals affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hawa Koomson, who previously served as Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and was also the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, was among several New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials reportedly targeted during the disruption of the rerun election.
According to the Minority in Parliament, the attack on her formed part of a broader pattern of electoral violence aimed at intimidating NPP figures and disrupting the democratic process.
Dr Bawumia’s visit was widely viewed as an expression of solidarity and concern for her well-being.
The former Vice President has expressed deep disappointment over the incident and called for a thorough investigation.
“Such violence has no place in Ghana’s democracy, and we must ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” Dr Bawumia said.
The Ablekuma North rerun, which was marred by several violent confrontations, has drawn widespread condemnation from civil society, the media, and political stakeholders
