CPP@74: Nkrumah's dreams dashed but we're creating structures to win 2024

Today, Monday, 12 June 2023, marks the 74th anniversary of the existence of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
In a statement marking the occasion, signed by General Secretary Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, the CPP noted that the dreams of its founder, Kwame Nkrumah, have been dashed given the country’s current economic situation.
“The CPP fought and gained independence for this country with a view to creating jobs through the massive industrialisation drive, the quest to liberalise this nation from the claws of colonialism and imperialism and also make sure that as Africans and Ghanaians we will forever be capable of managing our own affairs as espoused by our Founder Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who is also the founder of our Country”.
“But as it stands today, the dreams of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah for a self-sufficient and sustainable Ghana has been dashed because of policies that do not benefit Ghanaians,” the party stated.
The party indicated: “The Country has no Import Substitution Policy to ensure that there is a cap on goods that have to be imported into the country; unfortunately, most of our consumables are imported,” while an “attempt at industrialisation is left in the hands of foreigners whose only interest is to make profit, and repatriate most of their resources out of this country, contributing to the weakening of our local currency.”
It enunciated the “mismanagement of our economy, over-dependence on foreign financial aid and assistance whilst we ironically tout the mantra Ghana Beyond Aid.”
It further noted that the CPP governed Ghana with “a well-thought-out economic development plan which was aimed at ensuring that Ghana attained economic independence” but noted that “successive governments have had no plans aimed at ensuring that Ghana has a sound economic sound.”
The party, therefore, called on all comrades to support the cause towards bringing victory and liberation to Ghana.
“As we, as a party go forward to create the internal mechanisms and structures to enable us to win power in 2024 to liberate this nation, we call on all comrades to support the cause toward bringing victory and liberation to Ghana. Ghana needs the CPP to come on board at this crucial moment of our existence,” it added.
