Corruption has become unpardonable under Akufo-Addo – Kojo Twum Boafo
Former Chief Executive Officer, Free Zones Board, under former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Kojo Twum Boafo, has expressed deep concerns about the perceived escalating levels of corruption during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's administration.
According to him, the pervasive corruption is inexcusable and extends across every sector of the economy.
Mr Boafo, speaking as a panelist on the Citizen Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, February 22, 2024, highlighted his apprehensions regarding the conduct of appointees under President Akufo-Addo.
He asserted there seems to be a lack of adherence to the rule of law under Akufo-Addo, allowing appointees to engage in corrupt practices with impunity and even justifying their actions.
Characterising Akufo-Addo's reign as a curse, Mr Boafo suggested that it has inadvertently become a political advantage for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said Ghanaians, with the 2024 general elections approaching, have a basis to compare and contrast the NDC with the current administration.
Emphasising his viewpoint, Mr Boafo contended that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has caused significant damage to the country, and it would now require someone of the caliber of former President John Dramani Mahama to restore it.
He drew attention to alleged irregularities in the financial sector, such as the denial of payments to individuals who deposited money in banks during Akufo-Addo's tenure, particularly with Ken Ofori-Atta, his cousin, serving as the Minister of Finance.
He also criticised the government for introducing the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, and causing the collapse of banks, resulting in the loss of jobs for approximately 70,000 Ghanaians.
Mr Boafo contrasted this with previous times, even under military leadership, where individuals who deposited money in banks were promptly paid when needed.
