Declaration of vacant seats: Ato Forson turns Majority Leader
Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his satisfaction with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) becoming the Majority Caucus in Parliament.
As the newly appointed Majority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson stated the NDC's majority status is long overdue.
He argued that the NDC deserved to lead from the start of the eighth Parliament, which began on January 7, 2021.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) initially manoeuvred its way to secure the Majority, but the situation has now changed.
“The Minority has just moved from Minority to Majority.
In fact, the people of Ghana voted for the NDC to become the Majority, but due to certain machinations, this was delayed.
This should have happened from day one of this Parliament.
Finally, we are here,” he told the press shortly after Speaker Alban Bagbin declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
Three of the seats declared vacant belong to the NPP, while one belongs to the NDC, giving the NDC 136 seats and the NPP 135.
Dr. Ato Forson expressed confidence that the NDC will now be able to act in the best interests of Ghanaians, using their new position to advance key priorities.
The seats declared vacant include Agona West in the Central Region, Suhum in the Eastern Region, the independent Fomena constituency held by Andrew Asiamah Amoako, and Amenfi Central.
