E/R: NDC suspends Abuakwa North member for attempting to injunct elections

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended one of its members in the Abuakwa North Constitutency of the Eastern Region, Edgar Asamoah Boateng.
A letter signed by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiave Kwetey addressed to the suspended member revealed Mr Asamoah Boateng was suspended due to his conduct of seeking a court injunction to prevent the holding of the party’s elections across the various constituencies of the country.
According to the letter, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party at a meeting reviewed the challenges that prevented the party from holding the parliamentary primaries in 17 constituencies across the country.
“In the case of Abuakwa North FEC took a serious view of your conduct in seeking a court injunction to prevent the Party from holding both the Presidential and Parliamentary primaries, not only in Abuakwa North but in all the 275 constituencies in Ghana,” the letter noted.
It further noted that Mr Asamoah Boateng’s conduct is in breach of Article 49(1) of the party’s constitution.
Upon deliberation, therefore, it decided that: “With immediate effect your membership of the NDC be suspended,” the letter stated.
It also revealed that the “matter be referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee or further action.”
He has, therefore, been suspended pending the hearing and the final determination of the matter.
