EC lauds NDC for pushing re-exhibition of voter roll
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for advocating the re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register ahead of the 2024 general elections, a move that aims to enhance the integrity and precision of the electoral roll.
During a live broadcast of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Tuesday, 15 October 2024, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa praised the NDC’s recommendation, which she described as an important step towards bolstering transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
“The re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register has never happened before. Indeed, this is the first time, and it demonstrates that this commission is a listening one. It’s a commission that is open to receiving feedback for the betterment of its stakeholders,” Mrs. Mensa said.
She acknowledged the NDC’s input as pivotal to the EC’s decision, reinforcing the Commission's commitment to transparency and its dedication to producing a credible voters' roll for the December 2024 elections.
“We would like to thank the NDC for this idea of re-exhibiting the voters register. It also demonstrates that we’re a transparent commission and that we work with our stakeholders. We are confident with this approach, and we believe that we will have a near-perfect final voters register ahead of the 2024 December elections,” the EC Chair added.
The re-exhibition, began on Tuesday, 15 and is expected to end on Saturday, 19 October 2024, online.
