EC to commence registration exercise at District offices next month
The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to roll out the voter registration exercise at its various District offices across the country from Thursday 2 July to 6 August 2020.
A press release issued by the Commission today 26 June 2020 stated that a team of registration officials will be made available in its District office between the hours of 7 am to 6 pm each day to attend to “qualified applicants of 60 years of age and above, pregnant women as well as lactating mothers and persons with disability.”
The release also stated that “applicants who wish to go to the District offices for their registration can download and print the registration form 1A and Guarantors Form in colour (where necessary) from the Electoral Commission's website at www.ec.gov.gh, have their details filled and present them to the registration team to facilitate the registration process.”
In line with the Supreme Court’s ruling that made the National Identification Card (Ghana Card) or a valid passport the only eligible documents for registration, the Commission will also require those without the documents, “to provide two persons who have already registered to serve as guarantors.”
The Commission urged all eligible persons to register in order to exercise their franchise in th forthcoming general elections.
The Commission also pledged to enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols strictly to protect applicants from spreading the pandemic during the registration period.
