Effutu: NDC alleges possible manipulation over sudden transfer of Electoral Commissioner

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency has raised serious concerns regarding the sudden transfer of the Electoral Commissioner (EC) for the constituency, Madam Emelia Ama Akotiah, just days before the conclusion of the limited voter registration exercise.
At a press conference, the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in Effutu, James Kofi Annan, voiced suspicions of potential manipulation linked to this unexpected move.
He highlighted that although the Electoral Commissioner’s performance had previously been marred by allegations of voter manipulation in the 2020 elections, her recent efforts were aimed at rectifying these issues.
“Why will you transfer an officer at such an ungodly hour when you know that there is an ongoing registration exercise and there is an impending transfer to be done?”, Mr. Annan quizzed, implying that the transfer might be a strategic decision to disrupt fair processes ahead of the upcoming December 7 polls.
Mr. Annan emphasised that the timing of the transfer is highly suspicious and could undermine the integrity of the electoral process in the constituency.
He pointed out that Madam Akotiah’s actions to address past anomalies and prevent future irregularities might have prompted her sudden removal.
The NDC in Effutu is calling for transparency and accountability from the Electoral Commission regarding this decision.
They demand that the Commission provide clear reasons for the transfer and ensure that the registration and subsequent electoral processes are free from any form of manipulation or bias.
