Fact check: Kennedy Agyapong’s claim that Bawumia skipped Adenta NPP campaigns proven false
During a campaign tour of Adenta Constituency on Sunday, January 11, 2026, NPP presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong alleged that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia did not support the party’s parliamentary candidates in Adenta.
According to Agyapong, the NPP lost the Adenta seat because Bawumia reportedly refused to campaign for Akosua Manu, citing her opponent, Mohammed Ramadan of the NDC, as a relative by marriage.
He also described Adenta as a “traditional NPP seat.”
However, available records and visual evidence contradict these claims. Data from past elections indicate that Adenta has not been a stronghold for the NPP.
Since the constituency’s creation, the NDC has won four out of six parliamentary elections, while the NPP has secured victory twice.
In the last five elections, the NPP won only in 2016, while the NDC took the seat in 2008, 2012, 2020, and 2024.
Video and pictorial records shared by Akosua Manu further demonstrate that Dr. Bawumia actively campaigned for NPP parliamentary candidates in Adenta.
On 27 November 2020, he appeared alongside Yaw Buaben Asamoah, the NPP candidate, urging voters to support both the party and President Akufo-Addo during events held at Ashale Botwe Mosque.
He also campaigned for Akosua Manu in September 2024, participating in multiple constituency events.
Given the electoral history and the documented evidence of Dr. Bawumia’s active participation in NPP campaigns in Adenta, Kennedy Agyapong’s claims are therefore false.
