GA/R: Weija- Gbawe MCE urges residents to make cleaning a daily habit

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, MR Felix Odartey Lamptey, has underscored the importance of adopting cleanliness as a daily habit to achieve a 100% dirt-free environment.
Speaking to Class News correspondent Samuel Addo during a clean-up exercise to mark the Government’s National Sanitation Day, mR Lamptey emphasised that maintaining clean surroundings is as vital as personal hygiene.
He urged residents to make regular cleaning part of their daily routine activities.
The exercise formed part of nationwide activities to promote a clean and healthy environment under the Government’s National Sanitation Day initiative.
Mr Lamptey further assured residents that the Municipal Assembly would strictly enforce its by-laws to prosecute and fine individuals who engage in littering and improper waste disposal.
Joining the exercise was the Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe and Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Mr. Jerry Ahmed, who called for collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
He observed that a lack of political will continues to hinder sanitation efforts and cautioned residents against expecting preferential treatment based on political affiliation.
The Queenmother of Gbawe Sakumono Mallam, Naa Kwaatso II, also appealed to residents, business owners, and shop operators to actively participate in National Sanitation Day activities.
She warned that anyone who disregards her directive or fails to maintain a clean environment would face strict sanctions in accordance with local government by-laws.
The Weija Gbawe Sanitation Taskforce is expected to intensify monitoring across the municipality to check indiscriminate waste disposal.
Offenders will face the appropriate penalties as part of efforts to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all.
