GFL boss urges NDC to plan well for 2024 elections
Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to devise a comprehensive strategy for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mr Koomson emphasised the significant challenge posed by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which benefits from state resources and machinery, necessitating a concerted effort from the NDC to secure victory.
Mr Koomson pointed out the perceived shortcomings of the NPP in meeting the expectations of Ghanaians, positioning the NDC as the most viable alternative for governance.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between the NDC and Civil Society Organisations to effectively challenge the NPP and steer the country towards a more promising future.
However, Mr Koomson cautioned that the NPP is likely to employ various tactics, both legal and illegal, to influence the outcome of the elections.
He urged the NDC to remain vigilant and prepared to counter these strategies to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
Despite expressing optimism about the NDC's prospects, particularly with the inclusion of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang in their ranks, Mr Koomson warned of potential underhand tactics by the NPP to secure victory.
He referenced the controversial incident involving Kwadaso MP Kingsley Nyarko during the Ejisu by-election, where allegations of offering envelopes to Electoral Commission officials surfaced, highlighting the need for heightened scrutiny and oversight.
Mr Koomson's remarks underscore the intensifying competition and tensions in Ghana's political landscape as parties gear up for the 2024 elections.
His call for strategic planning and collaboration with stakeholders reflects a broader concern for the democratic process and the imperative of ensuring transparent and fair elections in Ghana
