Ghana'll make history in December by electing her first female vice president - Mahama
The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says the Ghanaian voter must see the 2024 elections not only as an opportunity to kick out the nepotistic and corrupt Akufo Addo-Bawumia government but also as history in the making with the election of Ghana’s first female Vice President.
Mahama, while addressing a mini-campaign durbar at Tongo in the Talensi constituency on Monday, noted that women play critical roles in nation-building. Though many women have occupied the country's top political and corporate positions, Ghana has yet to elect a woman to occupy the highest office of president or vice president.
"We have appointed women as Chief Justices, we have had a female Speaker of Parliament before, women have been Directors of Prisons, Attorneys General, and held other top positions in the public service, but none so far as President or Vice president,” he explained.
The NDC leader said the opportune time has come for Ghanaians, especially women, to rally behind the NDC and Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to make history.
“Naana Jane is an accomplished woman. Her credibility is unblemished”, he told the cheering supporters.
“She will not only be Vice President because she is a woman but a competent and qualified woman. She has made history before. She was the first female Vice Chancellor of a public university, and she’s been Minister for Education before."
Mr. Mahama expressed hope that women will rally themselves to give the NDC a resounding victory.
