Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom(UK), Her Excellency Sabah Zita Benson, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III at St James’s Palace in London.

The ceremony underscored the longstanding bilateral and historic relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom, while also marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s diplomatic history.

Mrs Benson’s appointment makes her the first female High Commissioner of Ghana to the UK since the country gained independence in 1957.

The occasion was further distinguished by its historical significance, as Mrs Benson became the first High Commissioner to be received by the British monarch at St James’s Palace since 1910.

The last such presentation at the palace took place during the reign of King Edward VII.

The presentation of credentials formally signalled the commencement of Ms Benson’s diplomatic duties in the United Kingdom. Her appointment is expected to further strengthen diplomatic, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Ghana and the UK, building on decades of cooperation in areas such as trade, education, security, and development.

Observers have described the event as both symbolic and historic, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to inclusive leadership and the continued evolution of its diplomatic engagement with key international partners.
