I'll run for Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat – COP Mensah

Commissioner of Police (COP) Alex George Mensah has officially declared his candidacy for the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 general elections.
According to COP Mensah, who recently retired from the Ghana Police Service, he has long-held an ambition to enter parliament and believes that the time has come to pursue this goal.
In an interview with Angel TV on Sunday, September 17, 2023, COP Mensah confirmed his intention to run for office.
While he did not disclose the political party ticket on which he will be contesting, he indicated that his family has affiliations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Throughout his career, COP Mensah has held various positions within the Ghana Police Service, culminating in his role as Director-General, Technical, prior to his retirement.
He gained public recognition when he was allegedly involved in a leaked tape scandal, which appeared to depict discussions about removing the current Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Subsequently, he appeared before a bipartisan parliamentary ad-hoc committee to defend his actions.
He also criticised the IGP for what he perceived as mismanagement and information restrictions within the police service.
