I will retire you in December: Okudzeto to Eleblu
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region , has vowed to end the political career of his opponent, Dr. John Eleblu of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming December 7, polls.
During the press launch of the Tongu Chiefs Union in Juapong, Mr Ablakwa confidently stated that Dr. Eleblu is no match for him in the upcoming parliamentary elections, asserting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains the dominant party in the Constituency and that he continues to be the constituents’ favourite.
“Can you imagine if Tongu Chief Union says that a particular politician will not be given the green light to campaign, that is the end of your career, and if you are not careful, you will go into early retirement, like the way my brother Eleblu will be retiring after the next elections,” he said.
Despite his strong words, Mr Ablakwa indicated that he would ensure Dr. Eleblu, a lecturer by profession, is given a position to support the development of Tongu after his anticipated defeat.
Mr Ablakwa is seeking a fourth term in Parliament, hoping that the electorate will once again endorse his candidature.
He previously defeated Dr. Eleblu’s father, Christopher Kofi Eleblu, in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
Mr Christopher Eleblu ran as an independent candidate after defecting from the NDC, but Mr Ablakwa secured 75.49% of the votes compared to Eleblu's 20.96%, while the NPP’s Arku Richard Collins garnered 3.1%.
In the 2020 elections, Mr Ablakwa again triumphed over Arku Richard Collins, winning by a wide margin of 37,699 votes and securing 89.71% of the total votes, a significant increase from his 2016 results
